Yankilla Run - Sunday 11th January 2015

Watching the weather reports earlier in the week I was expecting a wet and soggy day, not good when you have a car that has few leaks. Fortunately the good weather gods were looking down on us so it was on dry bitumen that 9 Vettes headed up the freeway to Hahndorf for our 1st stop, Chocolate @ No.5. The Struth's were already waiting, with Dave and Karen and Breck and Helen also arriving. With stomachs topped up on coffee and delicious Belgian waffles it was through Mt Barker and onto Strathalbyn.

A quick pullover to allow everyone to catch up and 11 Vettes headed off to Victor Harbor. It didn't take long before we found the 1st of the Sunday drivers. 2 old girls gasbagging in their Mazda 121 bubble car, 80kph and completely oblivious to the 20 cars banked up behind them. No idea! There should be a rule about this. There was also the idiot in Pt Elliott doing a RH turn from the far left side of the road, followed by the Mercedes driver who insisted on driving 10kph below the speed limit. Eventually we got to Victor. A quick stop at the lookout for a few photos. Pete and Lynda had to say farewell due to a prior engagement so the rest of us headed to Yankalilla (except for the red Stingray that didn't want to start. No probs, just needs to cool down a bit the owner says. We'll catch up). A member of the local constabulary followed for a while, got bored and left. Yet another Sunday driver.

The Victor to Yankalilla road should be renamed the Rattlin' Bones Highway. If you had false teeth they would have fallen out. Finally we arrived. The owner had even put some cones in front to stop others parking there because she wanted some photos of our cars in front of her cafe. The red stingray arrived soon after so hadn't taken long to cool and be restarted. New members Kit and Cris from Sellicks Beach popped in to say hello with their bright red C3 coupe, it was nice to meet them. Lilla's Cafe is warm and rustic, with some unusual art/metalwork. The food is delicious, but not the standard cafe/pub fare. Coffee is great. A well known blue C4 decided it didn't want to go home. Maybe it was the ghost of the dead camel playing games? No, just the immobiliser being silly. RAA was called but all was fixed before he arrived.

Thanks to everyone who turned up. I hope you all had a good day.
